2022 Per Se
Okanagan Valley
In 2022, our Lena Estate Vineyard produced a standout expression of Cabernet Franc. Expressive and balanced, it layers crushed raspberry, red currant and plum with sage, green peppercorn and subtle cedar. Fine tannins and bright acidity provide structure, while extended bottle aging has softened the tannins and amplified the vibrant fruit. Nuanced, elegant and downright delicious.

Tasting Notes
In 2022, our estate vineyard - Lena, on the west side of Lake Osoyoos yielded us the singular best expression of Cabernet Franc in recent memory. Block E, clone 214, was a standout from the day it was picked through fermentation, aging and on through blending. Expressive and balanced, with crushed raspberry, red currant, and plum layered alongside herbaceous sage, green peppercorn, and subtle cedar. The fruit and herb notes interplay beautifully, while fine, velvety tannins and bright acidity give the wine structure without overwhelming its elegance. A nuanced finish, with a gentle spice and herbal lift that complements the dense fruit. The extended bottle aging before release has softened the tannins and amplified the core of fruit, making it downright delicious for early drinking.

Vintage Notes
The 2022 growing season started with temperatures well below seasonal averages in May and June, while rainfall was plentiful. The cool and damp spring delayed budburst and shoot development, and as a result flowering and fruit set occurred up to three weeks later than average. July and August brought a return to more typical weather conditions with warm temperatures, clear skies, and very little rain. This allowed the vines to thrive and make up for any lost ripening time. A warm and dry fall enabled extended hang time, allowing the grapes to reach excellent levels of ripeness. The 2022 wines are textural and elegant, showing great aromatic intensity, vibrant fruit characters, and bright acidity.
